Sunday Fun Day!

Image
Sunday was a fun day for the Delano and Bakersfield community. FIELD EPIC and ESL had an orientation for new potential students who want to learn English or obtain their high school diploma. Our President/CEO David Villarino Gonzalez joined us to talk about all the business opportunities FIELD offers to our students at no cost, such as Early Childhood Education, Business Administration, Solar Panel Installation and much more.  Those who attended enjoyed great food, raffle prizes, and great information. We had a great turnout of adults of all ages who are ready to improve their future. FIELD's purpose is to empower the underserved to be self sufficient.  Everyone is welcomed to be part of FIELD's growing educational and training programs. Visit our page for more information and details on how to enroll. www.farmworkerinstitute.org

Adopt-A-Highway With Our Chavez Corps

Image
Our Cesar Chavez Conservation Corps team worked on the Adopt-a-Highway project yesterday along the 99 freeway. The Adopt-a-Highway program saves taxpayers millions of dollars in cleanup costs and allows state governments to allocate transportation funds to other projects. The number of state employees devoted to highway cleanup and beautification has plunged since the advent of the Adopt-a-Highway program.  We ask all Californians to be part of the solution, dispose of trash responsibly, and secure cargo loads before getting on the road.  Our goal is to continue to work on keeping our highways clean.  #ccec #field #adoptahighway #teamwork #california

Priorities

As our students continue to strive to be the best, we want to feature Jose Mata Rosas.  His teacher Ms. Ruby Torres says he is deserving of being one of many of September's students of the month. Jose is an EPIC de Cesar Chavez high school student in Riverside. Jose works more than 40 hours a week and makes sure to attend a class every day, even if it's just for a couple of hours.  His job often asks him to work overtime, but he still makes school a priority. During class, Jose is actively engaged in all class activities and goes above and beyond to help others in the classroom. His desire to learn is infectious to the other students in class.  Jose perfectly models FIELD's core values. Congratulations Jose, keep up the good work.

Determination

Congratulations to another of our Student of the Month, Alfonso Marcial. Alfonso attends EPIC de Cesar Chavez high in Riverside and has been chosen to be September's student of the month by his teacher Ms. Galia Minshew. Alfonso attends his classes daily on time and wants to finish high school and get his diploma so he can obtain a better paying job.  Alfonso gets up at 3:00 am to go to work in Temecula as a machine operator. He leaves work and goes straight to school at night. Alfonso says attending classes everyday helps him a lot in his work and his home life, although it is difficult he is determined to finish school and get his diploma.  In addition, the required government classes are a preparation for him to take his citizenship exam. He tells his children that education is the most important thing. Alfonso returned to school as an adult and he is a great example that it's never too late. Alfonso says: "Si Se Puede"

Join me in congratulating Savannah Kolb, she is one of our September students of the month. Savannah attends our EPIC de Cesar Chavez adult high school in California City.  Savannah is very driven and has her eye on the prize, a high school diploma. She works at Home Depot and makes every effort in attending class daily. She has a 97% attendance rate, working diligently in the classroom. Savannah has successfully completed 7 units of Cyber High required courses for graduating. "Savannah is a very respectful young lady who gets along with all her classmates. Has a positive attitude and is a great student overall." Says her teacher Mr. Tony Arevalo.  Savannah will attend Cerro Coso College with the goal of working in the Human Resources field. #epic #adulteducation
